Sugar Cane was once amongst the most famous and lucrative of crops in Sri Lanka. For a number of reasons the crop has been less popular in the last few decades. However since of late there is renewed interest and the government is looking to boost sugar cane plantations and sugar cane related products.

In Sri Lanka sugar cane is primarily used for processing of sugar. Efforts are underway to boost productivity of the harvest so that Sri Lanka could minimize the reliance on imported sugar. Currently local sugar production is only able to facilitate less than one tenth of the local sugar consumption.

You will be able to visit one of the best sugar cane plantations in Udalawalwe. During the tour you will be able to taste some fresh sugar cane prepared by our colleagues at the plantation.
