Soul Sri Lanka

Rubber for many decades was one of Sri Lanka’s primary export crops along with tea and coconut. The Sri Lankan rubber industry was initiated in the late 1800s.During its prime in the 1970s Sri Lanka’s rubber output was over 155,000 metric tons and Sri Lanka was the fourth largest rubber producer in the world.

Fast forward to today Sri Lanka as a nation has not been able to significantly increase the natural rubber production over the years and has an output closer to 160,000 metric tons and is at sixth place. The Rubber industry provides direct and indirect employment to over 300,000 people.

We have tailored our rubber estate experience in a unique way so that our visitors will get the opportunity to experience the village life of rubber tappers. You will also get an opportunity to try out the age old tradition of rubber tapping, working alongside some of the experienced rubber tappers, an activity that takes place early in the day.

Thereafter you will get the opportunity to tour the rubber processing plant where you will be able to observe the transformation of latex rubber into a commercially viable product. We will end the day by visiting the house of one of the rubber tappers to enjoy a hot cup of tea.
