Arrival and transfer to Mirissa

Arrive in Sri Lanka and transfer to the coastal town of Mirissa. Mirissa is a popular beach destination in Sri Lanka and renowned for its surf spots and resident whale population. Spend the evening relaxing at the pool or by the sea.

Whale Watching

The waters off Mirissa are ideal for whale watching as many species of whales including the blue whales are seen in this area. Head out to sea on a modified fishing vessel and explore the Indian Ocean. Return to your hotel for some down time. Head out in the evening to explore the local restaurants and night life in Mirissa.

Surfing

After Breakfast you have the option of transferring to a local surfing hotspot where you can rent out a surfboard and enjoy the waves. If you are a beginner there are many surf schools in the area which offer lessons.

Mirissa to Unawatuna

After Breakfast transfer to Unawatuna which is located near Galle. This coastal town is renowned for its crystal-clear beaches and which are protected by reefs which allow safe swimming. There are plenty of opportunities for relaxing and soaking up the sun.

Explore the Galle Fort

Spend the days at leisure relaxing by the pool and swimming in the ocean. There is a selection of optional activities available such as snorkeling, watersports and local experiences as well. In the late afternoon visit the Galle Fort which was first built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. The Galle Fort is one of the best-preserved examples of 17th century colonial fortifications in the world and is on the UNESCO list of world monuments. Much of what visitors see of the Galle Fort is a reflection of the way Galle Fort was during the time of the Dutch.

River Cruise and Local Foodie Experience

Spend the morning at leisure relaxing by the sea or step out and explore on your own. In the late afternoon head out to Galle on a local bus. Thereon you will transfer to the start point of your cruise down the lovely Kapu Ela river. It is a relaxing cruise through canals, under bridges and past small communities, spotting birds and wildlife if you are lucky as you go. Then take a tuk-tuk ride around this remote area, visit a small traditional village to get a feel for how the locals live, and enjoy a snack of egg hoppers and try your hand at making Kottu Rotti a popular Sri Lankan street food style dish made from roti and vegetables, egg and/or meat, and spices. Enjoy a night of drinks and entertainment before you return to your hotel.

Unawatuna to Bentota

After breakfast transfer to Bentota, A scenic beach destination with an estuary nearby which provides plenty of opportunities for watersports and river-based activities.

Nature and Watersports

After Breakfast setoff to explore the Bentota river by boat. This is a unique mangrove eco system which is home to many birds and reptile species. Whilst you have the option of relaxing by the beach, there are many activities available on the Bentota river such as jet skis, Banana boats and standup paddle boarding as well (SUP).

Visit the Lunuganga Estate

After breakfast visit Lunuganga, the country home of the renowned architect Geoffery Bawa which is located in Bentota. This is an ideal opportunity to observe his Tropical Modernism style and take in the beautiful landscaping and views of the surrounding countryside and the scenic Dedduwa lake. Enjoy a delicious rice and curry lunch at Lunuganga and transfer a short distance across the Bentota River to visit the exquisite Brief Garden which was created by Bevis Bawa, a renowned landscape artist and the bother of the famous architect. Return to the hotel for some time by the pool or a swim in the ocean.

After breakfast transfer to Colombo for your return flight or extend your holiday to explore the Hill country famous for the island’s most popular produce, Ceylon Tea!
